I was unable to load this software without crashing Windows XP. Tech support is generally unavailable. Does the software work? Who knows.

Simply amazing in it’s complexity and simplicity. I know, already the review is making you scratch your heads. However, I have an XP with an AMD Athlon, along with 512Mb of RAM (which, believe it or not, I got for only $400). Pinnacle’s system is slow to load up only when I am doing something like, using WinMX and Winamp, and loading up a website whose server is slow.
9.3.5 has it all. Transitions, myriad of formats (Mpeg, AVI, Streaming video), and even sound effects.
The only thing that keeps this from being a total 5 star product is that the amount of features that need to be paid for. I don’t mind a Hollywood FX package that costs $20 or $30 for something that resembles art school films; but c’mon…$70 for the high end FX…and there’s only 10 or so that are offered for that price. Then it’s more money for more effects. That’s the bummer. For the person(s) interested in coverting 8mm or VHS to DVD, this is the product. Some possible Haloing or pixelations are possible, but if you film to VHS or other tape, you’re not going to get a crystal clear transfer anyway. Just ask Paramount, or MGM. Some older movies (Porky’s, et al) weren’t made with the DVD format in mind, hence softer video and a lot of “noise” in the darker scenes.

I read all the bad reviews AFTER I had purchased this software. I must admit I was going to return it before I even opened the package. Finally, though, I did open the package and installed Studio 9 PLUS without any problems. I have since made numerous videos with no problems worth mentioning. It did error out a couple of times during the editing stage but I have learned to save early and often. And considering the many hours that I have spent in Studio, the fact that I received an error only a couple of times didn’t really bother me. So far, so good!

The best feature of this program is that you can actually work with individual frames. I record from my TiVo to my computer using this program. It allows me to totally clip out any commercials, it’s pretty easy to do. The downside is that it does have a tendency to crash when you least expect it.

I love the Pinnacle studio 9!!! I made a bunch of films with my friends on it, and they turned out very well. BUT, it seems to crash frequently. SO, I bought the Movie Edit pro 10, which seems to be better. I Would say that Pinnacle studio 9 would work much better if they didn’t charge 20 $ a effect and debug it.
