This is what I am doing – I bought Office 2007 Pro upgrade for a good bit less, and a OEM One Note CD on ebay. I installed, and based on MS Technology Guarantee, it says I get 2010 Pro download free. I’ll wait a while to install 2010, but this way, I should be covered for quite a few years, Good Luck!

Happened to buy office 2007 ultimate last month along with new laptop and was eagerly looking forward to get into office 2010 but my gig with Office 2010 didn’t last more than a day. Got office 2010 via tech guarantee from M’soft yesterday. Installed it immediately, today morning in office realized that Outlook calendar integration failed to display FREE / BUSY information from my office exchange 2003 server. There was a crack fix in registry for outlook 2007. All microsoft did was to identify and remove it. It took 10 – 15 minutes to restore my previous office 2007 using system restore under Windows 7. That’s the end of my exploration with office 2010.

My sincere advise – don’t be fooled by M’soft gimic that is office 2010.

I believe my title says it all. Pricing issues should be addressed to Microsoft. As it is, all the reviews about the pricing have skewed the rating of the software.

I was still using Office 2003. I like the features in this new version. I do a lot of email and Outlook works really well. No problems with this version of Office.

I am a lifelong WordPerfect user (and I always will be) but I was forced to buy Microsoft Office for school. It isn’t that I’ve never used it before. In fact, I’ve had lots of exposure to Microsoft Office. What surprised me in this release is that it really is rather easy to use, and it has some useful features. At first, I was annoyed at the new “ribbon” interface, but now that I’ve used it a few months (I used the beta first) I really like it. What a shock! I’m also happy that I don’t need to take classes to learn how to do the most basic things. I can figure it out easily.

I have read the reviews from the long-time users who are complaining about the lack of an upgrade price, and I agree with them wholeheartedly. If I were upgrading, I’d be furious. That is no way to treat loyal customers. But since I am not upgrading, and I got it at academic pricing (far less), I am happy.

If you are looking to upgrade, read the reviews carefully and consider whether you are willing to pay the excess money that Microsoft is trying to steal from you. If you don’t currently have Microsoft Office, you should enjoy this release, even if it is still overpriced.

  5. I’ve been an office “professional” user for years and years and have faithfully upgraded each time. I’ve researched this product extensively in an attempt to understand why I should pay nearly $500 to, essentially, change the background color and add a ribbon to the top of the page.

    Am I missing something???

Looks like I will take a pass on this. If I see another product that is more cost competetive, I will go in that direction.

Seems like an idiotic business decision.
